Diana: In Memoriam

Our 2008 visit to the makeshift memorial above the underpass in Paris where Diana, Princess of Wales died 11 years earlier. In addition, we paid visits to Diana's one-time home in England, Kensington Palace, as well as the nearby Princess Diana Memorial Fountain.

Slice of Charles and Diana's wedding cake sold for £1200

LONDON (AFP) - A 27-year-old slice of wedding cake made for Prince Charles and Diana has sold for 1200 pounds at an auction, it was reported Thursday.

The marzipan and icing, which came from one of the 22 cakes made for the wedding in 1981, was bought by an anonymous bidder at an auction in South Cerney, Gloucestershire.

The slice was preserved in clingfilm by Moyra Smith, who was a member of the Queen Mother's household at the time.

The Queen

The Queen is a behind the scenes look at the Royal family's response (or lack of) to the death of Diana, Princess of Wales.

I found it to be entertaining and even funny at times. Helen Mirren seems to be getting all the praise for her wonderful portrayal of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, although James Cromwell was excellent as the pompous Duke of Edinburgh. In fact the entire film has an excellent cast and some wonderful moving scenes. How can anyone forget the masses of flowers outside Kensington Palace?

Overall the pictures does a good job of showing the reaction of the Royals and the new Prime Minister, Tony Blair in a fair and dignified way. It doesn't really show us anything from inside the Spencer household, which might have been nice.

If this isn't nominated for an Academy Award or two I will be surprised.
