Pet Shop Boys Music Causes Israeli Freakshow

A DJ hired to spin tunes at a Bedouin wedding in Israel was beaten up for playing Western music which some guests felt encouraged lewdness in the women, the Maariv daily reported on Monday.
The DJ initially put on Arabic tunes for the hundreds of guests attending the event in Aroer village in Israel's Negev desert region.
At one point, he decided to stir things up and put on a song by the British electronic music duo Pet Shop Boys, causing some women to "dance exuberantly to the foreign music," angering some of the men present, the daily said.
"The fact that women were dancing at the wedding goes against tradition and is a dishonour to their husbands," it quoted one guest as saying.
Several angry young men gave the DJ a "severe beating" after he refused to go back to playing Arabic music. Police later arrested two men in connection with the incident.
This is just one more example of how religion does more harm than good. I'm surprised they didn't beat the DJ because he was playing 'gay' music!

Pet Shop Boys Not Stopping In Toronto

A few posts back I told you the Pet Shop Boys were coming to Toronto on August 30 but the venue hadn't been announced yet for their Pandemonium Tour. Well it seems the venue is in ORILLIA!!!!  Someone should tell the boys that Fu$%&ng ORILLIA is NOT the same place as TORONTO!!!! They are playing for a bunch of rednecks at Virginfest, which I'm sure will go over so very well.  Whatever!

Oh right, I did.  I also begged and pleaded but they aren't coming as you will see in the email I received:

I am sorry to say but PSB will not be playing any other venue in Toronto apart from what is listed as tour dates on the website.

Pandemonium Coming To Toronto

Yes, I will be attending. The Pet Shop Boys will be here on August 30th, the venue has not been announced yet. I have a feeling with their new album's popularity they may be regaining some old fans, which unfortunately means they might hit a bigger venue like the ACC. We saw them here a couple years ago at the Sony Centre (formerly the Hummingbird) and it was an excellent show.

I read today, a story at gay.com/news about a 21-year-old man who was convicted, in what I would suspect was a very unfair trial of 'raping' three boys when the man was age 13.

According to Human Rights Watch Makwan Moloudzadeh was hung late Tuesday of this week.
His family was notified on Wednesday to come and retreive the mans body. "We were expecting an order for retrial by the Supreme Court,'' Saeed Eqbali, the lawyer of the sentenced man said.

What came to my mind was a statement my Mother once made about the Pride parade. "I don't see why they need to have a parade" she said. Quite obviously not yet at a point where I was part of her condescending they. I was offended and don't remember what I said, but I know I wasn't happy with my answer and it has always bothered me.

When I read this story it reminded me of a sign that someone was carrying during the 2006 Pride Toronto parade which read: "We march for those who can't". I don't recall what group this person was with, but the marchers following him were carrying signs each with the name of a country and below it some statistic or fact about it like how many gays they had murdered. My point is this. We have a parade and celebrate who we are and our lives for many reasons. As many people often do, without having to give or have a specific reason, other than to celebrate. Just because it is fun. Some do have very specific reasons, for others they need no reason.

I feel that our parade has now evolved to a more developed state where it is not all protest and rights motivated, and we must not take that lightly. The fact that we are fortunate enough to be able to relax and party instead of having to fight for our lives is not enough. Now we must show the world that it is unacceptable to treat any minority in any unfair or unjust way. Especially when governments are murdering people for so called crimes, which are really just normal human behaviour.

I have never supported the death penalty and this is just one more case of why I made that choice.

What gives any state the authority to say who gets to live and who gets to die?

A criminal, any criminal is still human and is a product of the world that we all create, and for creating that world we all must accept our part, whether that part be big or small, one of passivity and blandness or a part that involves action and using your life to make a difference.

This is David's most recent video composition. The camera work was done in Toronto ON during Pride 2006, by David. He then edited the footage at home using his Mac and Final Cut Express. The song used in the video is The Pet Shop Boys, "The Sodom And Gomorrah Show" from their excellent 2006 album "Fundamental".

Feeling Better On Saturday

Its Saturday afternoon and for the first time this week I am feeling a little better, finally. I can't recall the last time I slept so much or spent so much time just laying around, but it seems to have worked and this cold is passing. Now I've got a ton of work that needs to be done around here and I will try to get to some of it today.

David bought the new live Pet Shop Boys CD, 'Concrete'. We just finished listening to it. There aren't any new songs on it, but there are new versions of some of their older stuff and a few from their newest CD 'Fundamental'. I guess that gets crossed off of his birthday/Christmas gift list!

Last night we watched one of the latest DVD's in my Nicole Kidman collection, Stanley Kubrick's 'Eyes Wide Shut' which also stars Nicoles ex-husband, Tom Cruise. I had never seen this movie until last night, and I would have to describe it as unusual and even bizarre, but interesting.

Pet Shop Boys Concert In Toronto

This is Andrew and my boyfriend David. I took this last night as we were on our way home from the Pet Shop Boys concert, which was excellent! I tried to take some pics inside the concert, but none of them turned out due to the lighting conditions. The concert was at the Hummingbird Centre and the show was fantastic.

Pet Shop Boys New Album

The PSB newest CD - Concrete will be released on October 23, featuring a version of 'Jealousy' sung by Robbie Williams.

Their N. American tour begins tonight in Montreal. We are going to see the show tomorrow night at the Hummingbird Centre in Toronto.
