The Green Party of Canada is pleased to announce the appointment of Debborah Donnelly to the Shadow Cabinet portfolio of Status of Women. Debborah is the nominated candidate for the Toronto-area riding of St. Paul.
As a Canadian Naval Officer for over a decade, Debborah blazed a new path for women in Canada’s Armed Forces by being one of the first female officers in a combat role. She was instrumental in developing policy on the training of women in the Navy, and eventually instructed and mentored the next generation of women and men at the Naval Officer Training Centre. Also a skilled archaeologist, Debborah has worked on numerous excavations overseas, where she forged ties with and learned from women of many cultures.
“Debborah will bring a critical eye to gender related policy matters in Canada,” said Green Leader Elizabeth May. “She brings a wealth of experience to the Green Party and has an admirable drive to make a positive difference in her community.”
“Having our candidate as part of the federal Shadow Cabinet will add momentum to our local effort,” said Robb Barnes, Communications Chair for the St. Paul’s EDA. Debborah will speak at the St. Paul Green’s Annual General Meeting, along with Antony Marcil, President, Forest Stewardship Council of Canada, and Mike Schreiner, Leader, Green Party of Ontario. The Annual General Meeting will take place March 7, 5 to 7pm at 449 Walmer Road, Toronto.
