Adam Khater, who worked for the Fellowship for African Relief, was shot to death at his home Monday night in the town of Kongo Haraza, near Sudan's border with Chad, said Mark Simmons, country director for the Ontario-based organization.
“He was shot by armed bandits at his home in front of his family last night because he could not provide them the satellite phone they were looking for,” Mr. Simmons told The Canadian Press by telephone from Khartoum on Monday.
The joint United Nations-African Union mission in Darfur confirmed the killing and said it was under investigation. It had no further details.
