One school system will benefit all

The recent announcement by the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board, which recommends the closure of 11 schools in addition to those previously announced, has left students, parents, staff, board members and now even a few politicians feeling anxious about the future. The HWDSB has been forced to make some very difficult decisions in the face of declining population and schools that have too many empty seats. School closures are personal and painful; there can be no question that closures hurt neighbourhoods. But what is a public school board to do?
