Thousands of Cyclists Take Over Bloor Street

I took part in the Bells on Bloor musical ride today with thousands of other cyclists who rode from High Park in the west end of Toronto to Queens Park downtown.

Bells on Bloor is a ride designed to send a message to city politicians that bike lanes are needed on Bloor street. Many studies have been done over the past years which indicate the best east-west main route for cyclists in Toronto is Bloor St.

Shamefully the city has done a major redevelopment through the 'mink mile' on Bloor street from Church street to Avenue road without including any bike lanes and even removing the bike posts that used to exist. This is the same stretch of road where bike courier Darcy Allen Sheppard was killed in a mishap with former Ontario Attorney General Michael Bryant.

Prince of Pot ordered to U.S.

A five-year battle by Canada's self-styled “Prince of Pot” to avoid extradition to the United States on drug charges appeared to be over Monday.
The federal justice minister has ordered Marc Emery surrendered to American authorities, the final step in the legal process.
Emery, who was charged in the U.S. in 2005 in connection with his Vancouver-based seed-selling business, had turned himself in to sheriffs earlier in the morning to await the federal justice minister's decision.

This year Sistering's annual fund raiser Funny Girls and Dynamic Divas is on Wednesday, May 26th at the Jane Mallet Theatre on Front Street.  With a combination of female comedians and musicians it's a great way to spend an evening and to help raise money for Sistering, which offers valuable services to women in our community.

Freedom Festival

I attended the Freedom Festival at Queens Park yesterday, which had a huge number of people turn out. It was my first time at this event. Toronto Centre Green Party candidate Ellen Michelson was speaking at the event so I gathered a few green friend and created the hand out shown below, only to lose the handout on the way to the event. If you find 600 1/4 page handouts somewhere please let me know. They fell of the back of my bike!
