Hyde_Pierce Whaa Whaa
After keeping his private life out of the spotlight for years, David Hyde Pierce has announced his marriage to longtime partner Brian Hargrove.
The former "Frasier" star spoke candidly in an appearance on ABC's "The View." Wearing a wedding band, Hyde Pierce revealed they tied the knot "very quietly" in California on Oct. 24. Full Story
Perhaps if people like Mr. Pierce had spoken out sooner and been a bit more, shall we say brave, prop 8 would not have passed in the first place. I understand everyone 'comes out' in their own time and way, but don't prattle on now in the media.
If you felt so strongly you would have made your views known sooner and perhaps influenced people BEFORE proposition 8 passed.
I have no sympathy.

Tables At The National Gallery

When we were visiting the National Art Gallery of Canada a couple weeks ago they were setting up tables for an event in the atrium. I thought it made a nice photograph. This is converted to black and white with a blue filter. We saw the Scott Mcfarland (no relation to Jack) exhibit when we were there. It was pretty interesting. One thing we noticed were several images that looked identical, except the sky and clouds in them were different. Very cool.

California Supreme Court Got It Right
There is no doubt in my mind that most other gays will disagree with me, however, I think the California supreme court got it right when they upheld the ban on gay marriage.
I'm not against gay marriage, but too many times, the public and politicians rely on the courts to make the difficult decisions. This happens because people are generally lazy and most politicians have no guts. This gay marriage ban is a perfect example.
In true democratic fashion the California populace went to the polls last fall and voted on the now famous proposition 8. The result of that vote was to ban gay marriage. After the vote all the gays cried foul and said that isn't what California realy wants, its just that enough people didn't get out and vote!
Well, I say boo hoo to you. This brings us right back to the generally lazy public. If they really felt so strongly about this issue and really wanted gay marriage, then proposition 8 would not have passed. The public has spoken and the supreme court has done the right thing by upholding the democratic process.
If the majority of Californians really want to allow gay marriage, then a new proposition will be put forward and a majority will vote to allow it.
Its really that simple.

Adam Lambert
Kris Allen may have won American Idol, but I was just browsing in the itunes store and I notice that Adam Lambert has three, yes three songs in the itunes Top 10 Songs list. Pretty impressive considering he didn't win.
Oh yeah, Kris Allen has one. David Cook, last years winner also has one. Thats five American Idol songs in a list of ten songs.

American Idol
Tonight is the finale of American Idol, and its down to Christian Kris Allen and Guyliner Adam Lambert, as they are being called. The internet seems to be buzzing today about who will win and the 'fallout'. Its all a bit much and I predict whomever wins will become the new unofficial pin up boy for the Gays or the Christians. Check out some of these links for other info and opinions.
I haven't always been a fan of the show, but this season and last I've been an avid watcher, and have been cheering for Kris since the beginning and last night I even voted for him.
Yes I'm gay, no I'm not a Christian, but I am shallow and Kris is cuter than Adam. Hey, at least I'm honest!
Simon Cowel has been drooling over Adam all season and it would seem that he, and the other judges have already decided he will win, however, they did the same thing last year with David Archuleta who was upset with a win by David Cook. Although, as CNN points out many (including me) didn't find out right away as the show ran over and I had PVR'd it and it cut off just as Ryan Seacrest announced; "The new American Idol is David -"
Tune in tonight on CTV in Canada or Fox in the United States to see who will be the new American Idol and if you are recording the show set the PVR to go a bit long!
UPDATE:
Last nights show gleaned a record one hundred million votes! The season total was something around 680 million votes. I'm watching the show now, just filler, the judges recap for the three people who don't know them I suppose.

MIXED WEEKEND FOR LGBT MARCHES
The first ever Baltic Pride march in Riga, Latvia passed off successfully and peacefully on Saturday - but there was violence at similar events in Russia and Poland.
A colourful collection of LGBT rights activists, joined by Amnesty International members from across Europe, carried rainbow flags and banners at the inaugural Baltic Pride event in Riga.

The Beer Store LOVES Cyclists
This is a follow up to the post "Does The Beer Store Hate Cyclists?". Terrorist Group Marches Downtown, Again
Since we were having such lovely weather this Mothers Day, a friend and I went for a long walk along the waterfront this afternoon. As we headed back to our corner of the city we met up with another group of Tamils representing the terrorist group LTTE. Actually I am only assuming that they represent the LTTE, but that is based on the fact that they are waving the flags. The LTTE is considered a terrorist group by the Canada and 31 other countries, and I for one think it is about time we stopped letting these people take over our streets. Does The Beer Store Hate Cyclists?
I went to The Beer Store today on Church Street in Toronto. They have a HUGE parking lot in a downtown urban location where many customers walk or bike. I couldn't believe it! What I couldn't believe even more was the lack of a bike rack!!!!?This is an organization that promotes their 98% packaging recycling rate, and it's wonderful, but lets see how 'GREEN' they really want to be.Please contact The Beer Store and tell them you want them to install a bike rack and promote cycling in Toronto!The following is the letter I sent to The Beer Store today:
I was at your store on Church Street today, just north of Wellesley St. in Toronto. Why is there no bike rack at a store serving an inner-city urban market? I notice you have about half an acre of parking for cars. Including myself there were four other customers at the store with bikes today. They were all chained to fence posts, etc. I will be talking about this on my blog as well if you are interested: http://wwwthedaye.blogspot.com/
I would think that a consortium which promotes their wonderful 98% packaging recycling rate would want to continue in this responsible direction and encourage your customers to arrive at your stores by means other than automobile. I hope The Beer Store will become a force in the movement to promote safe cycling, develop bike lanes, educate cyclists, drivers and pedestrians on safe cycling and help to develop cycling infrastructure in the city of Toronto.

Bloor Street is closed today from Sherbourne to Jarvis. An air conditioning unit is being installed on the roof of Greenwin Square, across the street from our condo. Aparently there was some very large hail right before I took these pictures, but I missed it. The street closure is in effect until four o'clock this afternoon.

Why Gay Marriage Is Wrong For America
Why gay marriage is "wrong".
1) Being gay is not natural. Real Americans always reject unnatural things like eyeglasses, polyester, and air conditioning.
02) Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.
03) Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract.
04) Straight marriage has been around a long time and hasn't changed at all; women are still property, blacks still can't marry whites, and divorce is still illegal.
05) Straight marriage will be less meaningful if gay marriage were allowed; the sanctity of Britany Spears' 55-hour just-for-fun marriage would be destroyed.
06) Straight marriages are valid because they produce children. Gay couples, infertile couples, and old people shouldn't be allowed to marry because our orphanages aren't full yet, and the world needs more children.
07) Obviously gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children.
08) Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. That's why we have only one religion in America.
09) Children can never succeed without a male and a female role model at home. That's why we as a society expressly forbid single parents to raise children.
10) Gay marriage will change the foundation of society; we could never adapt to new social norms. Just like we haven't adapted to cars, the service-sector economy, or longer life spans.
