More than family happens at Swiss Chalet
So the big delay last night was a robbery and hostage taking situation across the street at the Swiss Chalet. There were two robbers and they got away with an undisclosed amount of cash and the police have no description of them.So something happened...
on the way home from the pub tonight. A hostage/robbery situation. So, we had to go to Michaels place and he made me a killer screwdriver followed by a killer lime~screwdriver (lime Finlandia vodka). Anyway we are home safe and I will post an update when I know what is going on.

Canadian Classic Too Much for 17 yr olds?
Robert Edwards says if students repeated some of the words from Margaret Atwood's The Handmaid's Tale in the school halls, they'd be suspended, so he questions why it is okay in the classroom.
And what about the foul language, the anti-Christian overtones, the violence and sexual degradation, asks the parent who launched a formal complaint about the Canadian novel. Don't they violate the Toronto board's policies of respect and tolerance?
"If you look at the board's policies, it goes to these great lengths to talk about respect and not using profane language, and in fact so do the policies at Lawrence Park Collegiate," where Edwards' 17-year-old son was studying the book in his Grade 12 English class.

I say, this parent is a flake if he thinks this book is too much for a grade 12 english class. Lets get real people. It is one thing to read certain words in a piece of literature, and quite another to be walking around using the same words inappropriately.
If this classic Canadian literature does not abide the rules of the Toronto School Board then perhaps the rules need to be changed. Oh and maybe this parent needs to find a job or a life or something.

Former Culture Club frontman Boy George was sentenced on Friday to 15 months in jail after being found guilty last month of falsely imprisoning Norwegian male escort Audun Carlsen.
Tried under his real name George O'Dowd, the 47-year-old Briton denied the charge of false imprisonment at his London flat in April, 2007. After his conviction on December 5, judge David Radford had warned him that he faced a prison term.
But the length of the sentence was a surprise to lawyers who had expected a term of around three months, or even a suspended sentence.

Cold Weather Alert
At -20C, which feels like -30C with the wind chill, it's very, very cold outside today. Tomorrow is expected to be even colder and the bitter cold is forecast until the end of the week. The city has issued a cold weather alert and has been trying to get the homeless people into shelters. On CTV news they are saying you can get frostbite on exposed skin in 15 minutes or less so bundle up. The cold is also creating problems for GO Transit and the TTC causing some delays.

Fitness Sucks!
So, I went to the gym twice today. Now, before you start thinking I've turned into a gym rat (lol) or something like that, I only went back the second time because I was grumpy the first try, then after 30 minutes of fighting the treadmill, which wouldn't let me use a manual setting, I gave up and came home.
I had planned on 45 minutes on the treadmill, so I went back later this afternoon and did another 20 minutes on the elliptical trainer. Now my legs are like stone and I can tell they will be sore tomorrow.
My goal for the month of January is to go work out a minimum of three times a week for at least a half an hour each time.

Tim Hortons Racist?
I saw a new Tim Hortons commercial, which shows various Tims stores around Canada and is extolling the virtues of how fresh their coffee is. Never more than 20 minutes old! Ah, how lovely. I know how much Canadians love their hot fresh Tim Hortons coffee.
It would seem, from watching the ad that Canadians also love their WHITE Tim Hortons employees. Oops, I may have got that wrong. Tim Hortons it seems loves their WHITE employees. I don't recall seeing any person of any ethnic background in the ad, other than the wonder bread crowd.
I thought I should check this out before writing anything, so I went to the Tim Hortons across the street from my office and immediately noticed that there were no WHITEs working in the store at all! In fact, I would bet that the majority of their employees are not white, but they just want the public to forget that and portray the wholesome WHITE 1950's image that they do so well.
If I can find the ad I will post it here. I will also be writing to the company and see what they have to say about it.
