Deliver Us From Evil

Director Amy Berg has been a producer for CBS News and CNN. Her first feature documentary delivers a shattering and revealing account of the human cost of this issue. She tells the story of Father Oliver O’Grady, a notorious pedophile who used his position – as well as his Irish charm – to rape and abuse members of dozens of Catholic families across northern California over a twenty-year period. His victims ranged from a nine-month-old infant to the middle-aged mother of another adolescent victim. Astonishingly, despite ample signs and warnings as to his proclivities, the Church moved him from one parish to another, covering up the reality of what was going on from both the unsuspecting members of each new community and from the police. Church documents prove that, beginning in 1973, his evil deeds were done with their full knowledge.

British government report: global warming will devastate world economy

It appears that the global warming message may be finally getting through. Of course like anything else in this world, no real change comes until it becomes an economic issue.

The Queen

The Queen is a behind the scenes look at the Royal family's response (or lack of) to the death of Diana, Princess of Wales.

I found it to be entertaining and even funny at times. Helen Mirren seems to be getting all the praise for her wonderful portrayal of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, although James Cromwell was excellent as the pompous Duke of Edinburgh. In fact the entire film has an excellent cast and some wonderful moving scenes. How can anyone forget the masses of flowers outside Kensington Palace?

Overall the pictures does a good job of showing the reaction of the Royals and the new Prime Minister, Tony Blair in a fair and dignified way. It doesn't really show us anything from inside the Spencer household, which might have been nice.

If this isn't nominated for an Academy Award or two I will be surprised.

Reunited, and up for sale.

Paintings of the coast of Lake Superior, which were painted at the same time in 1922 by A.Y. Jackson, and Lawren Harris (my favorite artist of the Group of Seven) are up for sale on ebay (just kidding).

Aparently some moron thought it would be funny to toss a keg into a fire. A pot smoker would never do such a stupid thing. This is just one more bit of evidence to support my case that pot is a much better recreational drug than alcohol! Click here for the story.

Churches Mount Massive Lobby On Canadian Gay Marriage Vote

(Ottawa) Leaders from Canada's two largest denominations are treading the hallways on Parliament Hill today, presenting two differing views on a government plan to revisit the legalization of same-sex marriage.

On the one side are the Roman Catholic Church and a dozen socially conservative evangelical groups urging members of Parliament to vote to re-open the marriage debate and support repeal of the law enacted last year by the former Liberal government.

Five Things I’m Grateful For Today

After watching lots of Oprah's 20th Anniversary DVD this weekend, one of the things that was discussed was making a list of things to be grateful for everyday. Not having been the most positive thinking person in the past, I am going to try it. So here we go with my first list:

1. Spending time with Mom and Patrick today and all weekend.

2. Having a ride to Brockville and back to Toronto.

3. David

4. The beer I am drinking now.

5. Being alive.

Numb – The Pet Shop Boys – Fundamental

This song pretty much sums up the way that I have been feeling for the past week. Part of the lyrics go like this:

“I don’t wanna think, I don’t wanna feel nothing.

I wanna be numb.

I don’t wanna feel this pain no more, wanna lose touch.

I just wanna go lock the door.

I don’t wanna think, I don’t wanna feel nothing.

I wanna be numb……

The IRAQ BODY COUNT Database

The worldwide update of reported civilian deaths in the Iraq war and occupation.

The IRAQ BODY COUNT Database

This is an ongoing human security project which maintains and updates the world’s only independent and comprehensive public database of media-reported civilian deaths in Iraq that have resulted from the 2003 military intervention by the USA and its allies. The count includes civilian deaths caused by coalition military action and by military or paramilitary responses to the coalition presence (e.g. insurgent and terrorist attacks). It also includes excess civilian deaths caused by criminal action resulting from the breakdown in law and order which followed the coalition invasion.

Results and totals are continually updated and made immediately available here and on various IBC web counters which may be freely displayed on any website or homepage, where they are automatically updated without further intervention. Casualty figures are derived from a comprehensive survey of online media reports from recognized sources. Where these sources report differing figures, the range (a minimum and a maximum) are given. This method is also used to deal with any residual uncertainty about the civilian or non-combatant status of the dead. All results are independently reviewed and error-checked by at least three members of the Iraq Body Count project team before publication.

Laura Bush bought George a parrot for his birthday.

She told Dick Cheney, "The bird is so smart! George has already taught him to mispronounce over 200 words!"

"Wow, that's pretty impressive," Cheney said. "But you realize that he just says the words.
He doesn't understand what they mean."

"That's okay," Laura replied. "Neither does the parrot."

Pet Shop Boys Concert In Toronto

This is Andrew and my boyfriend David. I took this last night as we were on our way home from the Pet Shop Boys concert, which was excellent! I tried to take some pics inside the concert, but none of them turned out due to the lighting conditions. The concert was at the Hummingbird Centre and the show was fantastic.

Google Balcony Fall

H
ave you ever googled yourself? I entered my name in Google's image search and this was one of many images that the search engine found. I would like to make note of the fact that this is NOT me in this picture. I've been married twice, but never to Cindy Wiles.

I just took this shots from the balcony.
This is a fall in Rosedale, Toronto.

This is my before shot of the west facing side of our balcony. Nice view of the concrete wall of the condo next to us. Which is why it is the 'before' shot. I'd like to build a planter and grow some sweet pea up a lattice. Or maybe some other climber...the problem is light. We face north and don't get any direct sun, which makes for a cool, shady garden space. I think the best thing to do is keep to a sort of 'English Garden' type of theme and use the shade and filtered light to my advantage.

Savage Love, by Dan Savage (The gay man's Ann Landers)

My background: I'm a gay man; I recently came out to my friends, mostly because I met someone with whom I wanted to pursue a relationship. I had never experienced this feeling before. After much courting and pursuing, we met enough times that he remembered my name – then came love.

Eight months later, despite a few indiscretions on both our parts, I'm happy as can be. But I don't think we're in the same place emotionally. I need him – well, actually I neeeeed him – and he "needs his space." I don't want to date anyone else, and I fear that if we were to split up I'd revert to the sexual deviant I was, and he'd do the same.

Here's where the story gets on your nerves....
